Since our early childhood until this very day we are constantly bombarded with ideas and concepts from our parents, teachers, religious authorities, the TV and radio. “You are not good enough”, “You are not going to succeed”, “Prosperity comes with struggle”. These are limiting ideas that have infiltrated our minds in subconscious ways, shaping our beliefs and creating our realities.

The Law of attraction states that “Like attract like”, meaning that whatever we believe about life and ourselves becomes true for us.  If we believe that “People are out there to get us.” then this is going to become a reality for us, thus, attracting back stabbing and abortive relationships. You may argue that even though you were exposed to such ideas, you didn’t consciously decide to believe them. In reality, you may not consciously choose every thought you think every moment but this is only because the ideas are so entrenched into your way of thinking, they have become a part of your mentality. Removing those negative beliefs and reprogramming your mind with uplifting, positive ideas will help you create an improved life-experience so that you can be who you were born to be.

  1. Identify the limiting beliefs: The first step in doing so is to identify what you already believe about yourself and life and understand how these have influenced your life. Take a piece of paper and make note of all the negative statements that people in your life kept saying to you when you were a child. This should also include what people said were bad or wrong about you. Once you do this, take one statement at a time and try to find experiences in your life that matched the limiting statements. For example, a limiting statement could be “People are double-faced” and the life experiences that could have matched this belief could be short-lived relationships and people lying to you.
  2. Replace them with positive affirmations: After identifying the negative thinking you need to replace it with more positive, empowering ideas that will improve your reality. This is easily done with creating positive affirmations. An affirmation is simply affirming something about yourself and life. Every thought you think is an affirmation. Positive affirmations are a powerful tool to forming new beliefs, for a belief is simply a thought that is thought-upon for a long time. What you need to do is take the negative statements you have identified previously and reverse them into something positive. “I am always in the right place at the right time.”, “My future is always secure.”, “I have a perfect body.”, are some examples of the limitless affirmations you could choose to create.
  3. Repeat them consistently: Once you build your new beliefs, try and repeat them as often as you can or whenever a negative thought comes into your mind. In time, these new ideas will infiltrate your subconscious mind and replace the old negative programming you had, therefore, allowing you to shape your life and experience the magnificence that you really are.
