It took a lot of courage to write about this subject, but I knew I had to when it started interfering with my work, and my promise to serve you in the highest way possible.

I was recently awakened to the fact that I idolize Spiritual Teachers. While in a networking event with several popular self-help authors, I found myself putting on an act with the aim of gaining their approval and acknowledgment. Rather than engaging in a natural, sociable way, I was making compliments about their work, asking “smart” questions, and trying to impress them by imposing my own work and theories on them.

Thankfully, my ego act backfired when my desperate attempt to be noticed by one of my favourite spiritual teachers, if not my favourite one, was completely sabotaged.

Own Your Message

That’s when it hit me: By requiring his approval and validation, I was diminishing the power and authenticity of my message.

My neediness gave this person the power to direct the impact of my message, since owning it fully meant that I needed to have someone else validating it. The extent to which I could be and teach my message effectively was dependent on other people’s approval. This wasn’t only a disservice to me, it was also a disservice to you who spend time reading this article and expect me to own what I preach unapologetically!

Additionally, by not fully owning and vibrating my message, I emitted a sense of doubt and unworthiness. Since life always mirrors what you believe about yourself, my mixed vibration was preventing life from showing up for me in a bigger way, and getting my message to all those who can benefit from it.

Build Your Own Legacy

When I got back home that night, I fell on my knees in front of my altar and made a pact with myself. I promised myself that rather than trying to get my message validated by the spiritual teachers I follow and admire, I will instead be my message and let the impact of it be all the validation I need. I also promised myself that I would detox from reading other teachers’ work for a while, and give my own work permission to grow authentically, with no external influences.

As I blew off the candle on my altar and got ready to go to bed, I heard my Angels whisper words of agreement: There comes a time when you have to step away from other people’s legacy, and start building your own.
